It has an ancient & historical background. This city has faced many sultanates and ruler. About 770 years ago a Muslim Faqir Shah Hussain settled here on a 'Tilla'. Then his followers also came & settled here. When this land was dug out to build houses, then an anklet (payal) was found. So, Faquir Shah Hussain named this place as “Payal”. The grave of Shah Hussain is present here today also. After that during 1580-85, King Akbar ruled this city. During the year 1766, Maharaja Amar Singh of Patiala made this city, a part of the state “Patiala”. Maharaja Amar Singh got built a fort in this city with the co-operation of Mughals in 1771. This fort is present here today also & a Govt. Girls High School is being run in this fort. Besides this fort, there are 17 Hindu temples, five Pir, Gompir, Samadhi of queen, Mazar of Baba Main Maula & about five gurdwaras in this city. There is a very ancient temple of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parwati. There is also a temple named “Dasnam’s Akhara”. Another temple of this type is situated in Uttar-Pradesh. People of all religions live here with great love and affection.

Noora told the whole incident to Rai Kalha. He was moved at that moment & respectfully asked Guruji for any type of work. Then Guruji told that he wanted to know about Guruji's mother & children from Sirhind. Noora Mahi went on & told the whole incident about Guruji's mother and children after coming back. Then Guru ji pulled out the Kahi plant with the arrow & said that the root of Mughal Raj has been dug today. Gurudwara Tahliana Sahib is situated at that place. All the people kept silent at that time. When Guruji had become silent, then people requested him to take pity on them. The Guruji said that you have served well so the rule of Malerkotla will go on. Guruji handed over the Ganga Sagar to Rai Kalha & said that if you kept on serving the Ganga Sagar, the rule will go on and it happened the same as well. As they prayed the Ganga Sagar, the rule went on.

Till 1947 the Ganga Sagar was displayed for the Raikot, Dist. Ludhiana by Khan Bahadur Rai Inayat Khan. The owner of Gangar Sagar is now Rai Azizullah, grandson of Khan Bahadur Rai Inayat Khan and the present heir of the Rai family who has kept this sacred gift of Guru Gobind Singh Ji with great respect and care for almost 300 years...
